What Did Our Student Do in Barcelona?

Muhammed Hamza Duman, a Computer Engineering student from Abdullah Gül University, completed a three-month internship at UPC Manresa in Barcelona, Spain, with the CIRCUIT research group, focusing on designing, constructing, and validating LoRaWAN nodes.

In total, he built three nodes equipped with three-axis accelerometers and temperature sensors. These nodes possess autonomy to operate for extended periods with high-frequency data transmission. The nodes connect to The Things Network (TTN) through local gateways in the region.

During his internship, Hamza also set up a gateway in the laboratory to test how data is transmitted when multiple gateways in the TTN network receive signals. This work was used on the Grafana platform to visualize which gateways received data and with what signal strength.

At the conclusion of this technological exploration, the project ended with a field test on Montserrat Mountain. By climbing to Sant Jeroni with a node, the goal was to verify the gateways receiving data from the node (with the most distant gateway being more than 20 kilometers away).
